TH1RTEEN R3ASONS WHY – Book Review

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

This is a dark tale of how a girl kills herself told through tape recordings that describe her life and relationships with a list of people leading up to her suicide.

Clay Jensen, main character and in love with Hannah Baker (the girl who kills herself), is on the list too and he spends all night listening to the tapes to hear her full story.

This book cannot be put down. I SWEAR. I started it, and couldn’t stop. It’s not overly descriptive. It’s a fast paced race against time type of book. It’s all set in one night and the day after.

This book makes you want to read each section to find out a different story and you wait in anticipation to see what role Clay has in her death. There are no chapters, instead sections are labelled by cassette number and side. So you don’t really, psychological, acknowledge them as chapters thus making you fly through the story of the love life of a teenager.

I would say this book when turned into a movie, should be rated R because of it’s dark and adult content (unless of course they decide to tone it down). In fact a movie version of the book is well into production starring pop star/ Disney actress Selena Gomez.

The only problem with this story is the reason why Hannah kills herself. But hey it’s an amazing book and I highly recommend it.
