If you have tried to generate a text in ChatGPT, you probably have noticed it uses literary techniques fairly well, however I feel the need to express to you how bad it is; it reaches a level which is hard to replicate. Reading ChatGPT slop can be parallel to the feeling of hearing nails on a chalk board. It’s so nauseating to the point where it makes me cringe and feel like there is no light left for humanity. Without significant direction, it produces something akin to a corporate jargon of writing, lacking so much in nuance and substance that after reading it you are left with nothing. It finds its merit in that it can regurgitate a vast amount of words onto your screen without actually saying much at all.
The “lie to you machine”
Sometimes, ChatGPT can help you understand certain topics, explaining anything that is confusing to you after enough prompts, but after seeing it bastardise Spinoza’s theory one too many times, I felt personally scorned. So confident yet so very wrong, ChatGPT at first made me believe that I misunderstood something, but when it continued to say “attribute and mode” over “substance and mode”, I knew that was not the case. And it doesn’t stop at philosophy; it makes up maths formulas and gets wrong answers. It once told me that beta blockers and ace inhibitors could be used interchangeably, that there is no power loss formula and I have to work backwards from the efficiency. Not to mention the AI overview on google – it is wrong a good 60% of the time, and with confidence as well. Why we continue to waste time on using AI to write for us, learn for us and create art for us remains a mystery when it is so futile in all these respects. (AI art is simply not art and there is nothing more to be said)
