Rugby 101: A Beginner’s Guide to the Game

Rugby is an intense contact sport that started off by English people in England around the 19th century. It uses balls like footballs but shaped into oval forms. It involves two teams against each other trying to score the most points. You are allowed to kick the ball. Differently from other sports, rugby does not allow forward passes and requires very hard teamwork and skill strategies.

The ways points are scored:

Tries= 5 points

Conversions= 2 points

Penalty kicks= 3 points

Drop goals= 3 points

Rugby can be played in two main ways, Rugby union consisting of 15 players, and rugby league, 13 players. The major tournaments of rugby are the Six Nations Championship and the Rugby World Cup. Teams like New Zealand and South Africa are usually the dominating teams internationally.

The sport helps with physical endurance, strategy, and respect not only towards other players but also towards the referee, shaping a game with both great power and discipline.

Rugby has a strong community, present throughout all the world. Lastly, Rugby is a well-known sport and thought in most of the parts of the world, helping communities join together, encouraging teamwork and a true sense of love for the sport.
